In science, we have been looking at the solar system. We have studied how the Earth moves around the sun, meaning the sun is at different places in the sky during the day. We have been tracking the movement of the sun today by tracing our shadows on the playground.
Whatever the Weather!
Today we learnt about the climate of a rainforest. We discussed the different climate zones on Earth and what they are like. Rainforests are in the tropics so have a hot climate with a lot of rainfall. We created weather broadcasts for a typical day in a rainforest.
Reading Challenge
Thank you to all children who completed their reading challenge, which was to create a scene from their favourite book. All of the scenes look fantastic and are a great addition to our classroom!
PDSA Visit
Today the PDSA came into school. The PDSA are a charity that work with sick and injured animals across the country. They paid a joint visit to Class 4 and Class 5 to teach us about the important work that brave animals carry out every day. It was great to learn from them about animals and all that they do for us.
Christmas in Class 5!
Class 5 have had a lovely build up to Christmas this year! We used the steel drums in the Christmas Performances this year and organised the Advent Mass. We also had a really fun party day and really enjoyed the whole school trip to the pantomime.
Science experiments
In science this week we looked at seed dispersal. We studied sycamore leaves and how they are dispersed by the wind. We made our own versions of sycamore seeds and tested them under different conditions to see how it would affect their flying ability.
Youth Sunday Celebrations
In preparation for Youth Sunday this weekend, Class 5 went to a celebration mass this afternoon with other schools from our partnership. It was lovely to gather together with lots of other children to share in our faith before such an important weekend.
Children in Need 2018
Today Class 5 got into the spirit of Children in Need. We wore our own clothes and donated money. We discussed the importance of giving to charity and why our donations are all important as it all adds up!
Anti Bullying Week
This week we have been focusing on anti-bullying and choosing respect. We have written postcards to a bully in one of our favourite books (Mr Stink) to persuade her to stop bullying. We have also planned and created artworks based around the word respect. We split the artwork into 4 and made all of the sections different. This shows that while everyone is unique, everyone deserves respect.
Girls’ Football
Well done to our girls’ football team, made up of Year 5 and 6 girls, who took part in the football festival this week. They represented our school wonderfully. Well done.
