On Wednesday 8th June, children were asked to take part in a ‘Fun Day’ to help raise money for activities and resources. They were asked to come into school dressed in fancy dress, the more adventurous, the better! Prizes were given to the best-dressed children and everyone (including the teachers) took part in a run around the school field, therefore keeping us fit at the same time. KS2 did 10 laps of our huge field! Eve, deservedly, won the prize for being the best-dressed in Class 5. Although we’re not sure how she managed the run in those slippers? It certainly was a fun day and even the sun came out. Well done to all those who dressed up for the day and raised lots of money.
Shape Problem Solving
Our Maths lesson on Friday, was spent carrying out shape problem solving activities. We had to work in pairs and groups and discuss what we should do to help us achieve success. It was a fun lesson and we learned lots about shape properties.
Perfect Projects
Class 5 have worked hard over Easter to produce fabulous project work. They were so good, we just had to share them. We hope you enjoy them as much as we enjoyed making them and sharing them with each other.
Joseph’s Multi-coloured Dreamcoat
In preparation for going to the theatre to watch Joe McElderry in Joseph, we came into school in multi-coloured clothes. We spent time learning the story, singing songs and carrying out related activities. In class 5, we had a competition to design the best dreamcoat and poster to advertise the show. Our winners for the Dreamcoat were Thomas and Lydia. James and Aimee won the poster competition. Well done to all – the designs were amazing!
We are animators!
In Computing, Class 5 have been using a using and combining a variety of software (including internet services) to create their own animated Gif’s. Using Powerpoint drawing tools, they created a series of slides which made an easter egg appear to roll down a hill. They then used the website, Picasion.com, to import their work and create an animation (like a Victorian flick book). We all had a great time creating our own animations and watching each others’ work.
Palm Sunday Liturgy
Class 1 and class lead our school family in a Palm Sunday liturgy today.
Sport Relief
To celebrate Sport Relief, all classes took part in competitive games in their house groups. Class 5 joined Class 6 to play Tag Rugby. Year 5 also used their sports leadership skills to referee across the school. The red house group were pronounced overall winners for Class 5 and 6 on the day. Well done everyone for taking part.
Hair-raising charity
Totally Cosmic!
To celebrate World Book Day, Class 5 all dressed up as book characters and spent the day completing activities about our Class Book – Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce. We designed new book covers, created an advertisement for a Drax Phone and made ourselves into astronauts. It was a totally Cosmic day!
Anne Frank Exhibition
On Wednesday 2nd March, Year 5 were very fortunate to visit St Bede’s Comprehensive School to learn about the life of Anne Frank. A number of students from St Bede’s presented information about her life from when she was born in Germany unit she died at Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during World War II. Using a series of photographs, diagrams and extracts, they chronicled Anne’s life. It was fascinating to have such detail about her short, yet eventful life. Thank you, St Bede’s!
